The start of the new Parliamentary session is a reminder just how awkward it is to monitor the progress of bills on the Parliament site. The Bills before parliament page summarises the position thus:
- Public Bills before ParliamentThe page lists the titles of Public Bills currently before Parliament as well as Amendments to the Bill and Explanatory Notes relating to the subject of the Bill.
- Progress of BillsOnly the latest printed version of a bill is linked from the ‘Public Bills before Parliament’ page. If you want to search for the progress of a Bill in the current session of Parliament, use the Bill Index database.
- House of Commons Public Bill ListTitle of Bill, MP in charge and progress – from Weekly Information Bulletin
- House of Commons Standing Committee Debates on Bills
What a meal they make of it! For a much friendlier updater use ePolitix Legislation Watch where you can see at a glance the progress of each bill. You can also sign up for free alerts and other services.
